If you have a will before you pass, it will eliminate the need for a succession. Successions can take time and be quite complicated. It is alot easier to have your family (or whomever else) be clear about who gets what after you pass instead of having to hash out the details with an attorney later.  If you do have to work things out without a will, in the state of Louisiana, you will have to open up a succession.
